MATCH PREVIEW | Scunthorpe United

Today marks another occasion this season – and another this month – where the Magpies have met an opposition for the first time in their history. Back in 2010, when Chorley operated in the Unibond League First Division North and Scunthorpe United played their football in the Coca Cola Championship, today’s fixture looked highly unlikely, but here we are.

The Iron’s off the field issues that have plagued the club in recent history are ongoing, well documented, and need no further recital here, the club now find themselves in the National League North for the first time in their history following last season’s relegation from the National League, their first time at that level too. In the close season, the squad has seen a complete sea-change in an effort to make their stay in regional non-league football short.

Adjustment to life at this level has gone well so far and they currently sit second, two points behind Tamworth, having lost just one game from nine played, 1-0 away at Curzon Ashton.

Scunthorpe United’s playing record in the National League for 2022/23 was:

23rd. Played: 46. Won: 8. Draw: 10. Lost: 28. Goals For: 49. Goals Against: 87. Points: 34.
