MATCH PREVIEW | Gloucester City

Saturday 29th April 2023 will be a game that both Gloucester City and Chorley FC fans will not forget in a hurry. Following their 4-3 victory on the day, City headed to the playoffs and the Magpies were left to rue what might have been. There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then and, having fallen at the first hurdle away at Brackley Town in the playoffs, much change both on and off the TigerTurf surface has happened.

This season has been a difficult one to say the least for City fans with their club currently occupying the relegation spots – in 22nd – and four points from safety. A recent mini-renaissance saw City pick up six points from six and two away wins to boot, with a midweek victory away at Banbury United, 1-2 and away at Bishop Stortford, 1-4, on January 27. Saturday’s defeat 1-2 at home to King’s Lynn Town – who occupied a relegation spot at that point – would have been a significant blow but, if they can be buoyed by their recent away win in midweek, then they can make the long journey north with hopes to repeat the feat. Chorley will be looking to bounce back after failing to build on the excellent midweek victory at home to Alfreton Town. Saturday’s defeat to Warrington Town saw the Magpies struggle to create any real cutting edge and ultimately get punished on the counter in the second half, the hosts running out 2-1 victors. Tonight is a real opportunity to get back on track.
